

Lewis Eugene Adkins was born in Lebanon, Missouri on February 15, 1940. He went to be with the Lord on May 4, 2015. He passed away in the comfort of his home at the age of 75. Lewis was the second of four children. After graduating from Lebanon High School in 1958, he would move to Redwood City, California with his family. He worked at a veterinary clinic for a year prior to enlisting in the US Army in 1959. He would spend the next twenty years in active service of his country completing one tour in Germany and two tours in Vietnam prior to his retirement in 1979. He attained the rank of Sergeant First Class, earned the Bronze Star and Purple Heart and qualified as a Master Gunner. He moved to Houston, TX with his family in 1980 and began working as a mechanic at Rolligon Corp. He also began a second job at the National Delivery Service in 1982. He would work tirelessly at these two jobs for over the next twenty years to support his family. He retired in 2007.
To those that who had the privilege and pleasure of knowing him, he was a gentle spirit, an incredibly patient man. He lived his life in all humility letting his work ethic speak to his character. But above all, he was a family man. His every labor and sacrifice found its roots in this devotion. He will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Adkins and Rosalynn Vasquez, and his brother, Richard Adkins. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Yong Adkins; four children Gene Adkins and wife Dee of Fort Worth, Larry Campbell and wife Isa of Houston, Alicia Castillo and husband Richard of San Jose, California, and Michael Campbell and wife Kari of Houston; brother, Jim Adkins and wife Christa of Santa Maria, California and sister, Patricia White of Ceres, California; 9 grandchildren, Crystal and Michael Schad, Chris and Keith Adkins, Richie, Ryan and Rane Castillo, Lauren and Mikey Campbell, and a host of nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren
The family cannot express enough gratitude to the doctors and nurses of the Methodist and Kindred Hospitals and his caretakers who have all went the extra mile in their care for Lewis. It will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be at 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Monday, May 11, 2015 at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home with a Funeral Service following at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at Houston National Cemetery, Houston, Texas.
