Lilia Valdes Padron

Lilia Valdes Padron, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2026, at the age of 97.

Born in Cuba on October 26, 1928. Lilia was preceded in death by her mother and father, her two sisters, her son-n-law, Dr. Hersh Waxman, and her loving husband, Secundino Padron to whom she was married to for 53 years. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Yolanda Padron, and her son, Noel Padron and his wife Lisa, her grandson, David Waxman, and granddaughter Sandra Waxman, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lilia lived a beautiful life filled with love, faith, family, laughter, music, creativity, and devotion to the people she cherished. Lilia loved to cook, and boy was she a great cook; specially making her delicious flan and “ropa vieja” (old clothes). She found great joy in crocheting and sharing her beautiful pieces with others.

Lilia was also a talented seamstress. She worked for Esther Wolf and Sakowitz, both high-end clothing stores, and she had the extraordinary opportunity to work on dresses for Lady Bird Johnson and Miss Texas. She took great pride in her work and in creating beautiful things with her hands.

Lilia’s greatest gift was her love for people. She never met a stranger. She was gentle, kind, loving, and a great listener. She loved to laugh and loved music. She remembered everyone’s birthday and made each person feel important and remembered.

Her family was the center of her world. She was always there for Hersh, Yoly, Noel, David, and Sandra, encouraging them to enjoy life and have fun. She was always eager to hear about their day. Noel and Yoly called their mother every day, and if they ever missed a day, they certainly heard about it! That daily connection was a testament to the special bond they shared. The simple moments of family life brought her tremendous happiness.

Her faith was also an important part of who she was. Lilia prayed every day, trusting in God and carrying her faith with her throughout her life.

Lilia remained sharp, independent, and loving until the very end. She never wanted to be a burden to anyone. Instead, she spent her life giving—to her family, her friends, and everyone who was fortunate enough to cross her path.

Lilia’s laughter, stories, cooking, music, prayers, and unconditional love will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She taught her family that life should be enjoyed, people should be loved, and there should always be time for a good story and a good laugh.

She was truly one of a kind.

Lilia, you were loved beyond measure. Your family will carry your love with them forever. May you rest peacefully in God’s hands.
