OBITUARY

Lillian Merle (Burch) Vickers

November 15, 1926March 30, 2018

Lillian Merle Burch Vickers was born on November 15, 1926, in Baytown, Texas and graduated from Goose Creek High School. She was the second of five sisters who were all raised by their godly mother to love and follow the Lord Jesus Christ. She continued to do so until she entered His presence on Good Friday, March 30, 2018, just in time to celebrate Easter with her risen Lord. During World War II Lil joined the Cadet Nurse Corps, and was in nurse’s training when she met Clarence Thomas “Tommy” Vickers, Jr. They were married November 10, 1945 and celebrated nearly 59 years together. They attended Woodland Baptist Church, and then White Oak Baptist Church, where Tommy served as a deacon, and Lil taught Sunday School and led Girl’s Auxiliary and Girl Scouts. Lil had a variety of jobs, including working as a Pinkerton agent before spending many years as an Exxon employee. She and Tom enjoyed camping, entertaining, traveling in their RV, playing “42” for decades with the same group of friends, and spending as much time as possible with their extended families. They had three children: Lillian Suzanne, Thomas Carlon, and Gregory Kyle, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Lil’s parents, Denson Carlon Burch and Ottilee Pierce Burch, precede her in death, as do her sisters, Lula “Lu” Gregory, Betty Burch Meyer, Florence Nell “Flo” Bouras, and her grandson, Jacob Thomas Bilodeau.

Lil is survived by her sister Linda Cavanaugh and husband Doug, her children: Suzanne Vickers Bilodeau, Tommy Vickers and wife Marcia, and Greg Vickers; her grandchildren: Maggie Baca and husband Anthony, Lynda Schubring and husband Scott, Esther Vickers-Rupp and husband Jesse, and Cameron Vickers and wife Maddie Gretzky; and great grandchildren: Rebecca and Alyssa Keim, Jacob and Luke Schubring, and Seth Baca. Additionally, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Aubrey Hampton, brother-in-law Dale Vickers and wife Norma, and many nieces and nephews on both sides.

Lil will be remembered for her dedication as a wife and Sunday School Teacher, her desire for all to be saved and follow Jesus Christ, her excellent cooking--but most particularly her pies--and her delight in children, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather and share memories of this wonderful woman’s life during a visitation from 5:00 until 7:30 pm on Friday, April 6, at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston, where a Celebration of Lil’s Life will be held in the chapel at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 7. Burial will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, also in Houston. Further details are available at www.WaltripFuneralDirectors.com
