Linda Carey, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at Memorial Hermann Hospital on the evening of Friday, February 5, 2016, after a nearly lifelong battle with Lupus. She was surrounded by her family as she was called home.
Linda was born September 9, 1948 in Houston, TX and was a lifelong area resident. She was the first child and only daughter of Burton and Margie Pate.
She thoroughly enjoyed working in her flower bed and tending to all of her plants. She had a special place in her heart for animals. Over the years, she had numerous cats and dogs that she cared for and loved. She was mostly homebound during the last stages of her life and her two dogs brought her considerable happiness. She was a movie buff and had quite a collection. Her most favorite were Elvis movies. She was an avid sports fan and loved to watch football, especially the Texans. When she was able to travel, she enjoyed trips to New York and Florida with her husband and monthly trips to Jacksonville to visit her beloved daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. She loved her family with all of her heart. Her two grandchildren were the sunshine in her life and her greatest treasure. And most importantly, she loved Jesus.
Linda is survived by her husband of 24 years, Rick Carey; daughter Lanette and husband Brad Morton of Jacksonville, TX; two grandchildren Drew Morton and Ella Morton; her sister-in-law that is like the sister she never had, Cathy Carey. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Burton and Margie Pate; two brothers, Donald Pate and Kenneth Pate; and granddaughter Peyton Morton. What a joyous reunion she is having with so many members of her family that she deeply loved.
Visitation will take place at Forest Park Lawndale on Thursday, February 11th from 12pm until 2pm. Graveside services will immediately follow. Serving as pallbearers will be Adam Pate, Christerfer Pate, Brad Morton, Drew Morton, Mike Collins and Rick Carey.
