Linda Jean Kubin passed from this world on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, in Houston, Texas, from Alzheimer’s Disease. Born on July 12, 1946, in Vinita, Oklahoma, Linda moved with her family to Houston, Texas, in 1952. She graduated from Spring Branch High School in 1964.
Linda was married to Harvey Melcher, her high school sweetheart, and in later years to John Kubin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Evelyn Rutherford, as well as a brother, Richard. She is survived by her daughter, Parilee Rachel Melcher, and son-in-law, Lee Howden of Houston; sisters, Norma Mills (married to Bob Mills) of Katy, and Marcia Champion of Houston; nieces, Kim Jasman, Kristy Kelly, and Melodie Smith; and many cousins in the extended family.
Throughout her life, Linda had an appreciation for nature, enjoying camping trips, the beauty of flowers, and caring for any animal that came across her path. She had many pet cats and loved each one dearly. Linda often referred to her daughter’s cats as her grandkitties. She enjoyed bowling in leagues with her mother, and she was an incredible artist. She enjoyed doing crafts, even making special trinkets for her nieces and daughter for holiday occasions. She would always include gifts for each of their pets as well. She enjoyed shopping trips with her daughter, wandering through garden and knick-knack stores, and watching classic movies. In her later years, she spent her time coloring and enjoyed participating in activities at her care home.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Heritage at Eldridge Parkway and Highland Hospice for the care they lovingly gave Linda in her last few years and days. Memorial contributions may be made to Rescued Pets Movement (rescuedpetsmovement.org).
A Celebration of Life service honoring Linda will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 19, 2025 at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road, Houston, Texas 77055.
