Lisa was born on October 27, 1958 in DeKalb, Illinois, the daughter of Robert and Corinne Kirschbaum. Lisa graduated from DeKalb Senior High School in 1977, and from Texas Christian University in Ft Worth, TX, in 1981 with an Interior Design degree.
Lisa started her career shortly thereafter in Houston, TX as an interior designer for Finger Furniture Rental (a.k.a. Cort Furniture) and other companies thereafter. She was a highly skilled and comprehensive commercial interior designer. Lisa was introduced to her husband Doug Hammel in 1994 by a mutual friend and were married at St Mathew Lutheran Church in Houston on April 13, 1996. They resided in Houston and were happily married for 22 years.
Lisa was a very active member of St Mathew Lutheran Church where she volunteered her design and artistic talents on several building renovation projects. She loved the Lord and was a faithful Christian servant and loving wife. Lisa had a very generous heart and supported many charities. Lisa was an animal lover and adored her cat Madison. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, entertaining, traveling and was passionate and gifted in the arts. She enjoyed her many trips around the country and overseas with Doug, as well as many visits back to the Midwest to visit often with family and friends.
Lisa was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Corinne Kirschbaum of DeKalb, IL.
She is survived by her husband Doug Hammel of Houston, her sister Lynette (David) Doust of Ft. Wayne, IN, brother in law Brad (Amanda) Hammel of Houston, TX, sister in law Jeanne (Craig) Rivers of Chapin, SC, nephew Jon (Tina) Doust of Lima, OH, great niece Camilla Doust of Lima, OH and nephew Chris Doust of Indianapolis, IN.
The visitation will be at Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Blvd., Houston, TX, from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM on Sunday May 6th 2018. The funeral service will be at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road, Houston, TX at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 7th 2018. A brief reception will follow. Private burial services will be in DeKalb, IL.
