Jesus welcomed Lisa Marie Koerselman into this world on April 14th, 1967, to Herb and Arlene Koerselman, in Dallas, TX. She was an extremely happy, vibrant child that brought great joy to her parents. She was baptized into the Lutheran Church in May, 1967. She was also confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Normal, Illinois in 1981.

She attended school at various locations as her father assumed greater administrative responsibilities in higher education. The entire family moved to new schools and locations, which may be the reason Lisa enjoyed traveling through out her life. Her younger brother, Brian was born when she was 2 ½ and she did not remember life without having a little brother. They shared great memories of traveling to Grandparents in Iowa and Minnesota, along with many family vacations.

Lisa is a graduate of Huntsville High School and Sam Houston State University with a degree in Accounting. She went on to obtain an MBA from Rice University. She began her professional career in public accounting with KPMG where she earned her CPA certificate. She moved into private industry and ended her career with 14 years at Hess Corporation upon her passing. Her years with Hess Corporation were the most rewarding of her career. She thoroughly enjoyed her colleagues and considered them family and took great joy in their lives outside the office, as well. Her boisterous laugh, fast walk, and her high expectations were well known throughout the office.

She loved to travel and explore new areas of the world with friends (especially Jill), colleagues, and family. She was also known to enjoy good food, fine wine, and music. She relished seeing everything from the Taj Mahal to spending time at a little lake cabin in the woods of Minnesota.

We cannot overstate the importance of family in Lisa’s life. In addition to her parents, The importance of extended family such as her niece, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles was always evident. She was the first one to hop on a plane for birthdays, holidays or for no reason at all, just to be with family. She especially enjoyed giving Hess Corporation trucks to children of her cousins. She was the first to acknowledge achievements on Facebook, like Tori’s softball success, Blake’s football prowess, or Barrett’s baseball skills. In addition she always recognized and commented on pictures posted by family and friends.

Lisa was a warrior. By the time she was 35, she had endured 5 strokes, had open heart surgery, and was diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer. Through chemotherapy, learning to walk and talk, and trying to heal, she never failed to ask about you. A miracle was recognized 15 years ago when she beat the odds of living a normal life. A year ago, the ovarian cancer came back with a vengeance in her chest and lungs. She battled on, but on August 22nd she passed into eternal life with God the father, his son and Holy Spirit.

Lisa was a woman of strong faith. When asked whether she wanted people to know about her health conditions, she would say, of course, the more people that are praying for me, the better. She could feel the power of prayer. She was so very thankful for her church family for their prayers and support.

She is survived by her parents, Herb and Arlene Koerselman, her brother Brian and his wife Karen, her niece Tori, and nephews, Barrett and Blake, and a large extended family.

The family requests persons wishing to remember Lisa consider giving memorials in her name to the Trinity Lutheran Church, 800 Houston Avenue, Houston TX 77007.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day-and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8
