Lois Lee Horton

Lois Lee Horton was born on January 3, 1932 in the Florence Nightingale Hospital located in El Campo, TX to Roy and Hagar Virginia Horton. Lois was 1 of 9 children -- Joan Brooks-Barr, Lottie Marsh, Nell Dawson, Rose Nick, , Rita O'Neal, Carolyn Taylor, David Horton and Roy Horton (deceased). Lois enjoyed life with her large family in Texas. She was an optimistic individual who cared deeply about her family and others. At an early age, she was baptized. She attended Jones Creek Elementary School and graduated High School in Wharton County. She possessed a strong sense of self and believed a higher education was key to her success. After high school she worked her way through school and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She later continued her education and became a licensed Behavioral Health Counselor. Lois married, Alvy McElroy, in 1951. They experienced many adventures together and witnessed many changes in the world, and eventually would go their separate way. Lois would say the greatest joy of her life were her three daughters: Jacquelyn (Abram, Sr) Ford of Missouri City, TX; Carol Wade of Humble, TX; and Dawn (Michael) Madrey of Cibolo, TX. Lois sacrificed and encouraged her daughters to be women of good courage. They blessed her with 8 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Her large family grew even larger and she soon became affectionately called Mama Lois. Lois treasured the little things in life like singing her children a song like "Que Sera Sera", "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" or "His Eye is on the Sparrow". She helped her children with school and taught them many of life's most important lessons. She enjoyed a simple day of shopping with them and toward the end of her life desired most to be near them. Lois Lee Horton was an incredibly loving and special mother and grandmother. She possessed the right spirit and will see God. She will be sorely missed and never forgotten. Her legacy lives in her daughters and their families, her surviving siblings, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
