
Lonnie L. Chandler Jr., loving servant of God, departed this world on May 17, 2013. He was the only child, born June 1, 1926 in Houston, Texas to Lonnie and Willie Lee Chandler. As a child, Lonnie was raised in a Christian home and taught to love the Lord. He acknowledged Christ, accepted Christ and was baptized at the early age of 16. While growing up, Lonnie attended Eight Street Church of God and Christ with his family. Lonnie was a faithful member at all his church affiliations which include Lily of the Valley Church of God and Christ, Superintendent Frank C. Fanniel and Berean Seventh-day Adventist Church, Pastor Clarence Williams, III. While attending Eight Street Church of God and Christ, he was ordained as a deacon, sang in the choir and played the piano for praise services and special solos. Lonnie began working at an early age and was a hard worker his entire life. He never wanted to be late nor miss a day of work. He joined the Army in 1945 and served until 1948. He cut hair for 40 plus years. He owned and operated a barber shop named Chandler Barber Shop. This shop also included Tyler Barber School. Both stayed in operation for 15 plus years. He was also a retiree of the Veterans Hospital after 30 plus years of service and HISD after 10 years of service. In his early life, Lonnie was united in marriage to Effie Lee Barnett Chandler to which one child, Donald Chandler, was born from this union. He later divorced and married the late Hazel Chandler to which no children were born to this union. Lonnie was a fun loving man who loved to praise the Lord. He was easy going, humble, loved to dress, a great neighbor, and loved to help those who always asked for assistant. Preceding him in death, his parents - Lonnie Chandler Sr. and Willie Lee Chandler and his second wife, Hazel Chandler. He leaves to mourn and cherish his memory, his son Donald Chandler, Houston, Texas, a god-daughter, Mary Ngwazini (Ceaser), three grand children - Donna Chandler, Dallas, Texas, Donald Chandler Jr., (JoAnn}, Houston, Texas and Daniel Chandler, Houston, Texas and four great-grand children (Charlotte, Cheyenne, Chanelle, Chanise); host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
