Lorraine Jackie Carr was born August 15, 1951 to the late Joe Gary and Joyce Clewis in Houston, Texas. She attended Bruce Elementary, E. O. Smith Junior High and Phillis Wheatley High School in the Houston Independent School District. She accepted Christ at an early age and united with the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late, Reverend A. A. McCardell and then, Reverend C. L. Jackson where she served in various ministries of the church. Jackie met and married her "true love", Reverend Orris Lynn Carr and later became a member of the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late, Dr. M. L. Jackson and continued to serve faithfully under the leadership of Reverend Mose A. Jones. Despite many health challenges, she was a very faithful and active member of the Minister's Wives, Deaconess, Choir, Pastor's Aide, Sunday School, Mission, Sunshine Band and the Women in Action. Jackie was blessed with a very melodious voice and will forever be remembered for singing songs such as "The Name of Jesus" (which Dr. M. L. Jackson would often call her to sing after his messages), "Yes There Is A God", "Trust and Obey" "Glory Be To The Father" and " Order My Steps". Jackie sang with well known artists and groups such as Charles Tyrone, Willie Thornton and V. Michael McKay & Redeemed. Jackie lived a full and faithful life, (filled with blessings and grace) until God called her home from labor to reward on Tuesday, March 17, 2015. Her love for God and her family was her priority in life. We are grateful that Jackie fell asleep on this side, but woke up in the presence of God in that Land Beyond the Sky. She was preceded in death by her mother, Joyce Clewis; father, Joe Gary, grand-daughter, Breonna Harden; sister, Hazel Clewis and brother, Jason Clewis. She leaves to cherish her memories: husband, Reverend Orris Lynn Carr; daughter, Mecheria "Cheri" Clewis; stepdaughter, Kamoya "CoCo" Carr, adopted daughters, Brenda Harden, Janet Mosley and Bianca Carr; sons, Brandon Carr, Brodrick Harden and Brent Harden; grandchildren, DeAndre Mosley, Kingston Hubert and Javoris Sumuel; sisters, Jenedine Clewis, Lavern Chambers and Shirley McCall; brother, Roderick Valentine (Sheila); goddaughters, Kelsie A. Jackson and Davida Allen; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and the entire Bethlehem MBC of Houston family.
