She was born to Felipa Vela and Maximino Martinez, on February 24, 1923, in Meyersville, Texas. She moved to Houston with her mother and four siblings as a young child, and it was in Houston that her stepfather, whom she adored, Felimon Rodriguez, entered her life.
Louise graduated from Sam Houston High School, where she was a member of the Black Battalion Drum Corp. She married Leon Acosta from Nacogdoches, Texas, on June 8, 1946, and became the mother of three children, Laura, Alfred and Larry. The family resided near Downtown Houston before moving to North Houston in the mid-1960s. Louise was married to Leon for 25 years until his death in 1971.
In addition to her role as a loving wife and mother, Louise enjoyed working outside the home and spent her career as a circuit technician in the oil field industry, finally retiring from Excello Circuits when she was in her 70s. Throughout her long life, she enjoyed music, dancing, exercising, gardening, cooking, wearing pretty clothes and high heels, and spending time with her adoring family. She was an avid reader, a staunch Democrat and a huge fan of the Houston Astros. She found humor in all things and was an eternal optimist who lived life to the fullest. She brought laughter, love and joy to all who were blessed to know her.
As a devout Catholic, Louise had an unwavering faith in God and in her patron saint, St. Jude. She was a fierce prayer warrior who prayed the Rosary daily. In her younger years, she attended St. Stephen Catholic Church where she was active in the choir and other activities. She later became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Louise will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Laura Acosta Cruz (James), Alfred Acosta (Brenda) and Larry Acosta; grandchildren, Jessica Rush (Ben), Lisa Ortiz (Christopher), Patricia Fowler (Clay), Alva Lopez (Emilio), Regina Smith (Greg), Leon Acosta (Joann), Veronica Acosta, Hope Acosta and Jane Blanco (Rod); 30 great grandchildren; 10 great, great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Leon; parents, Felipa, Maximino and Felimon; siblings, Thomas Martinez, Louis Vela, Mary Mendoza (Rudolph) and Matilda Gandara (John), and granddaughters, Elizabeth Acosta and Lori Gomez.
