Louise Mills Alexander passed away peacefully on August 24, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on February 21, 1933, Louise was the only child of Stella Wolfe Mills and Berkeley Mills. She spent most of her childhood in West Virginia.
After graduating from Hollins College in Roanoke, Virginia, Louise made Houston, Texas, her home. She dedicated her career to the development, education, and enrichment of young children, earning her Master's degree from the University of Houston. She then spent 35 years as a beloved Kindergarten teacher with the Houston Independent School District (HISD), primarily at Gregory Lincoln Elementary (formerly Gregory Elementary). Louise was also a proud and active member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Delta Upsilon.
Beyond her teaching career, Louise was a passionate advocate for individuals with special needs. Her leadership and volunteer work at the Richmond State Supported Living Center, where her son resides, showcased her deep commitment to this cause.
A long-time resident of Houston, Louise was a devoted member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer for over 60 years. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, neighbor, and friend to many. Louise cherished time spent with friends, attending Bible study, playing cards, crafting, and gardening. She was also a talented athlete, artist, and writer. Above all, Louise was a devoted disciple of our Lord, extending His peace and love to all those around her.
Louise is survived by her four adoring children, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on September 8, 2024, at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer (5700 Lawndale Street, Houston, Texas 77023).
