Loulynn Kelly Townsend passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, December 6, 2012, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. Loulynn was born on June 1, 1940 in Odessa, TX, and spent most of her life in Houston. She was valedictorian of Bellaire High School and graduated from the Unviversity of Texas at Austin, where she was a Delta Gamma. She taught math at Westbury High School and later became one of the first female Systems Engineers at IBM. Diagnosed with Parkinson's more than 20 years ago, she remained graceful, strong, and dignified throughout her ordeal with this devastating disease. The world is a better, and kinder, place for having her in it. Lou-Lou is preceded in death by her parents, Louise and Lenn Kelly. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kelly and Mary Catherine Townsend; grandson, Emmett Townsend; sister, Jean Nicholson; nephew and niece-in-law, Barclay and Janice Nicholson; grandnephew, Quentin Nicholson; and many loving and loyal caretakers, whom she considered to be her adopted granddaughters. A graveside service will be held at 10am on Monday, December 10, 2012, at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetary. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Toys for Tots Foundation (cash donations online or toy dropoffs at multiple locations), so that some less fortunate children will have a brighter Christmas this year in Lou-Lou's honor.
