Louvenia Austin went to be with her Lord on January 10, 2021.

Louvenia Boseman was born September 14, 1939, in New Orleans, Louisiana to her parents, DeVance, Sr. and Lettie Boseman who proceeded her in death. She was the seventh of 9 children: Tessie, Iona, Etta, Leona, DeVance Jr, Richard, Louvenia, Raymond, Emmanuel. She married Wilbert P. Austin, Sr. on December 21, 1958. Louvenia and Wilbert Sr. were married for 12 years before his death on July 7, 1971.

Louvenia was baptized at the age of 9 at Second Mount Calvary Baptist church by Rev. J.B. Barnes on Easter Sunday morning, July 24, 1949. Louvenia graduated from Booker T. Washington High School on June 6, 1957 and from Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) with an Associate Degree in Office Management in May 1976. Louvenia had a career in civil service, working for the Total Community Act (TCA) and then the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) for 27 years. Louvenia lived in New Orleans until moving to Houston, in August 2005.

As a young child she started playing piano for Crescent Straight Light Baptist Church for three years. She also played for Saint Luke Methodist Church. Louvenia always wanted to be a gospel singer, but felt her voice was not strong enough. She had a strong Christian faith and loved the Lord. Her favorite hymns were Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior and I Wonโ€™t Complain. She loved crafts such as crochet, cross-stitch, painting and quilting.

Louvenia is survived by her four children: Wilbert Austin, Jr. (Alisa), Darryl Austin, Troy Austin (Connie) and DeLette Roussell. Nine grandchildren, Thirteen great-grandchildren and her sister, Iona Russell and a host of nieces and nephews.

DeLette, Diane, and the entire Boseman family:

May our Heavenly Father comfort you during this time of sorrow. Be reminded that we, as children of God, WILL see our love ones again. Louvenia is in the presence of Jesus Christ. The One who died and rose from the dead for us and promised He will prepare a place for us. Louvenia is at peace with other family members. 1Thessalonians 4:13-14 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

Continue to trust and lean on God. He will lift the heavy burden.

Mrs. Austin was the mother of my colleague and also a mother in my childhood community. She was a lady of honor and dignity who modeled that life faithfully in my community. I pray the comfort of the Holy Spirit to be upon her family in this season.
