

ROBERTA LUCILLE MALONE WOLFE BAILEY passed to her heavenly reward on Monday, Feb. 8th, 2010, at the age of 94, surrounded by loving family. Born in Briscoe County Texas on her parents' farm on Dec. 3, 1915, Lucille lived in Plainview, attended Wayland Baptist College and began teaching at the age of 17. She later graduated from Baylor University and eventually attained her masters' degree in music education from Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, teaching public school music and other subjects in Texas and Oklahoma for forty years. An accomplished organist and pianist, she also taught private piano lessons and served as church organist and pianist in various churches. Lucille Malone married Rev. Harvey Wolfe in 1939, serving at his side until his death on Feb. 8th, 1970. They raised three daughters: Celia Lyn, Dorothy Cathryne, and Nena Caroline. She married Rev. Milton Bailey in 1977 and resided in Houston until her passing. She grew to love her step-son and step-daughter: James Bailey of Houston and Betty Bailey McCall of McAllen .Lucille was a member of Second Baptist Church of Houston. She was the pianist for Sing Along at Spring Shadows Retirement Center, served as Queen Mother of the Red Hat Society, was active in Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Sorority, and was an avid reader and seamstress. She was also a member of Keenagers at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Houston. Mrs. Bailey is survived by her husband, Rev. Milton Bailey of Houston; daughters, Celia Grant (Bill) of El Paso, Cathy Burgess (Joe) of Broken Arrow, OK, and Nena Tatum (Glen) of El Paso. Grandchildren: Tammy Carns (John), Boca Raton, FL; Shelly Turner, Dallas; Kim Pearman (Gary), Bixby, OK; Kevin Burgess (Sharla), Bixby, OK; Brian Tatum, Denver, CO; and Amy Davis, (Mike), Los Angeles, CA. Great-grandchildren: Keirsey and Casey Carns, Boca Raton, FL; Jake, Laney and Whittier Pearman, Bixby, OK; Canyon Burgess, Bixby, OK. Siblings: Doyle Malone (Jeanne), Arlington; Bill Malone (Skippy), Midland; Lecia Carroll (Larry), Houston; Ann Chaddick (Russ), Houston. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Stepchildren: James Bailey, Houston, and Betty McCall, McAllen.A celebration of her life will be at 10:30 am, Thursday, Feb, 11th, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 809 Northwood, Houston, with Chaplain, Col. Tom Blase of San Antonio officiating. Honorary pallbearers are: Kevin Burgess, Brian Tatum, Gary Pearman, Mike Davis, John Carns, Bill Grant, Joe Burgess, Glen Tatum, and James Bailey. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Bessie and Clint Malone Memorial Scholarship at Wayland Baptist University, Plainview, TX, 1900 W. 7th, Plainview, 79072.Her family will miss her laughter, her joy of life, and her ability to love. We are so blessed to have had her in our lives. The family expresses deepest thanks to the doctors and staff at Vosswood Nursing Center for their compassionate, tender care of their wife, mother, and grandmother.
