Lodie was born on October 19, 1932, to Luther and Blix Stapleton. He graduated from Galena Park High School before serving in the United States Air Force. He also attended Texas A&M University to play football and baseball.
Early in life, Lodie met the love of his life, Mary Jane, and together they began a vibrant journey that included performing as professional ballroom dancers. He had a passion for music and was a proud member of a men’s ensemble group, where his warm voice and love for harmony shone through.
Lodie enjoyed a successful and multifaceted career. He served as President of Southwest Building Group and was also a skilled ProAm golfer. Alongside his late brother, Shelly, he owned and operated SS (Two S) Ranch and later Brazos River Ranch, where they bred cattle, quarter horses, and racehorses—including their standout, Lil Bit Shiney.
He began his involvement with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo as a committeeman and, through years of dedication and hard work, rose through the ranks to become one of the 12 Vice Presidents, overseeing multiple committees. His leadership and passion for the western heritage shone through in every role he held. In recognition of his exceptional service, he was honored with the title of Lifetime Vice President, a role in which he continued to support the Rodeo’s mission and the traditions he held dear.
Lodie was also the owner of Groceries N More, through which he served his community with dedication and pride. His legacy is marked by his deep commitment to family, hard work, and a life richly lived.
