

Lyndon B. Howell was born in Woodville, Texas on Sunday, August 31, 1941 to parents William E. and Vera J. (Parks) Howell. After a courageous battle with cancer, Lyndon passed away in Houston, Texas on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at the age of 74.
Lyndon was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Korea, Vietnam and Germany. He retired in June of 1979 after 21 years of military service. He was a member and Past Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post #8790 and the American Legion Post #654. Lyndon’s dedication to his country did not stop with his retirement. For more than 30 years, he has been instrumental in scheduling, assembling and leading the VFW Post #8790 Honor Guard in providing military honors for thousands of veterans from all over the country.
Lyndon is survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 53 years, Edeltraut “Trudy” Howell; daughter, Patricia “Patty” Wilson and husband Gaylon; son, Lyndon B. Howell, Jr. and wife Sabrina; grandchildren, Rachel Masters, Sarah Masters, Jessica Masters and Alexander Howell. Also surviving are Lyndon’s sisters, Ramona McClain, Diane McCann and Oleta Melancon.
Family and friends gathered to share memories and celebrate this wonderful man’s life during a visitation from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston, Texas.
Family and friends will gather one last time and honor Lyndon at a graveside service scheduled to begin at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive in Houston, Texas 77038. Military honors will be provided by members of the United States Army Honor Guard, and Lyndon’s own Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8790 Honor Guard.
