Manuel Guerrero, Jr. was born to Jacintha and Manuel Guerrero on March 30, 1933 and passed away peacefully on August 25, 2017. He is survived by his daughter, Katherine, her husband, Robert Lira and their two children, Rachael Ann and Robert Allen. He is also survived by his brothers, Antonio Guerrero, Victor Guerrero with wife Mary Ann, sister, Virginia Palacios, and sister-in-law, Carmen Guerrero. He is preceded in death by both his wives, Esther Miranda Guerrero and Vernice Guerrero as well as his younger brother, Raymond Guerrero.
Manuel met his first wife, Esther while attending Jefferson Davis High School. He graduated in 1951, and went on to attend Rice University in 1954.
Even though heights were problematic, Manuel still joined the service as a paratrooper where he often had to jump out of airplanes. He always said he learned the art of how to fall gracefully in the service. This skill was one that always stayed with him throughout his life. Any time he had a fall, whether, out of a car, upstairs, downstairs, or on flat ground, he was never injured and never lost a drop of milk or cookie in the process.
Manuel was very adept in all the components of mathematics. After his time in the military, he went on to a very successful career of over thirty years with Mosher Steel, even working in Canada for a brief period.
In his last few years, Manuel’s health required extra care. We would like to extend our upmost gratitude and appreciation to his caregivers, Mae, Lorenzo, and especially Brian. Thank you for your kind and compassionate care over these years. You all took care of him as if he was one of your own.
Manuel was a very simple family man. He liked his warm Dr. Peppers, word puzzles, his books, and definitely his sweets. He was always cheering on his grandchildren at every dance recital and baseball game that he could attend. Among many things, we will miss his humor, his bluntness, and of course his singing.
