Manuel was born on Aug 16, 1926 in Mercedes, Texas to Jovita Garcia and Jesus Ramos. He oversaw his father’s ranch in McAllen, Texas with his brothers, Ramiro and Ismael, then moved to Houston in 1957 for better opportunities for himself and his growing family. He worked at Southwestern Fence Company for a number of years where he became the lead for his crew. For a period after that, he and Ismael, had their own fence company. His last formal position was as a maintenance supervisor for the Spring Branch Independent School District.
After Manuel retired, he had fun fixing lawn mowers, as well as doing some lawn maintenance. He also became an avid golfer and fan of the pro game. He’d spend many hours on the course with friends, sons, and grandsons. Sometimes he’d bring his wife, Elisa, and let her drive the cart!
Manuel’s love for his family was shown by his involvement in their lives and celebrations of holidays and family milestones.
Manuel was preceded in death by his wife, Elisa De Hoyos, his sons, Manuel Ramos Jr., John Ramos, and Ernest Ramos.
He is survived by his daughters, Jo Spence, Mary A. Garcia, Mary H. Flicker, and Emily Ramos (and husband, Elbert McKinlay), his sons, Roy Ramos, and Jimmy Ramos. And many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
