Born on January 2,1929 in Lawrenceville, Virginia, she was the only child of Aubrey Marshall Hawkins and Indie Ella Lucy Hawkins. They later located to Dolphin, Va. on farmland where she helped with the tobacco and other crops. Following her graduation from Lawrenceville High School in 1947, she took off to the big city of Richmond, Virginia. There she attended business school and worked at the Division of Motor Vehicles. Through friends, she met who would become the love of her life, Hyman Edsel (Ed) Mills. They married on October 14,1950 at the parsonage of Methodist Church of Edgerton, Va.
Margaret and Ed were blessed with two daughters, Carol Ann Mills and Kathryn Elizabeth Mills. They raised them in Richmond, Va. Margaret was active with their school's PTA and at their church, Reveille Methodist Church.
In 1969, Ed's employment moved them to Houston, Texas. They settled in the Spring Branch area where they stayed for the rest of their lives meeting many longtime and close friends. Margaret and Ed joined Fair Haven United Methodist Church. They became very active serving in many ways. Margaret was active with the United Methodist Women's group, the Searchers Sunday School class, volunteered in the church office, worked in the Fair Haven Food Pantry, and was an honorary member of the Methodist Men's Group. She also joined the church choir and was active many of the choir productions.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Ed Mills, and her daughter Kathryn Elizabeth Mills Locklin. She is survived her daughter Carol Ann Mills Fletcher, her five grandchildren, Dawn Locklin Nichols, Marshall Locklin, Jamie Locklin, Carrie Fletcher Lowe and Russell Fletcher and their spouses, and her ten great-grandchildren Wesley Petrowski, Katy Beth Pellerin, Beau Locklin, Zachary Locklin, Abigail Locklin, Preston Lowe, Ayden Lowe, Sarah Lowe, June Fletcher and James Fletcher.
Margaret loved life and lived it to the fullest as best she could.
Funeral service will be held on February 17, 2026 at Waltrip Funeral Home. Visitation/viewing at 10am, Celebration of Life at 11am with a reception following until 1:30pm. A private family interment will be held at the cemetery at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, make donations to the Fair Haven Food Pantry, 1330 Gessner
