Margaret F. "Marge" Pehrson was born on Friday, Aug. 26, 1921, in Pittsburg, Texas to parents Jerome Kirby Fuller and Annie Ruby Waller Fuller. She passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, in Houston, Texas at the age of 89.
Marge was devoted to her family, friends and church, who will remember her fondly for her strength, dignity and compassion. She was a lifelong lover of words and language, of travel, fashion and art. She took an active interest in political issues and concerns of the day, as well as environmental and animal protection causes.
A Houston resident since 1926, Marge graduated from Houston’s Stephen F. Austin High School in 1939, where she was a proud member of the Scottish Brigade drum and bugle corps. Marge first worked at the Houston branch of the Federal Land Bank, then during World War II took a civil service job at Ellington Air Force Base, where she was secretary to the lieutenant commander of the base. After the war, Marge enrolled at the University of Houston to pursue a degree in English. There she met Marv Pehrson, who would become her beloved husband of 56 years. As she always said, “I chased him until he caught me.” They were married on October 31, 1947, at Houston’s First Methodist Church.
Marge and Marv settled in the Spring Branch area of Houston in 1949, when they welcomed the arrival of first son Eric Brent. Daughter Marsha and son Craig Fuller followed in the next few years. Together with Marv, Marge began attending Terrace United Methodist Church in 1951, its founding year, on the second Sunday the fledgling church held services. Terrace was her church home for nearly 60 years. Marge served for 20 years on the Board of Directors of Terrace’s Big Little School, working to build its reputation as one of the finest preschools in Houston. In their retirement years, she and Marv maintained a second home in Chappell Hill, Texas, where they created many happy family memories.
Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Marv, her son Eric, her granddaughter Erica Margaret, her mother Ruby Waller, her father Kirby Fuller, her brother O’Neal Fuller, and a niece, Dianne Paris.
Marge is survived by her loving children, daughter, Marsha Pehrson, son, Craig Pehrson and wife Carole, a loving brother and sister-in-law, Bennie and Ruth Fuller, several other loving relatives and many dear friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, the 12th of November from three o'clock in the afternoon until eight o'clock in the evening at Waltrip Funeral Directors in Houston, TX.
A funeral service celebrating Marge's life will be on Saturday, the 13th of November at eleven o'clock in the morning at Terrace United Methodist Church, 1203 Wirt Road in Houston, with Reverend Dr. A. Allison Cambre, D. Min. officiating. Graveside services will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery after which the family will return to church and join friends for a reception.
In lieu of usual remembrances, memorial contributions may be made to Terrace United Methodist Church (713) 686-4328.
