She was born to the late Miguel and Catalina Dominguez, June 12th, 1946, in Apizaco Tlaxcala, Mexico. She, along with her siblings and parents, emigrated to the United States, in 1957. She married the late Leonard Campos and they lived together in Houston until his passing in 2020. Maria is survived by six siblings, three children, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Maria was a proud graduate of Incarnate Word Academy and continued her studies in teaching. She loved her tenure at Head Start and Gulf Coast Community Association (GCCSA). There, she was responsible for all Head Start early childhood centers in the greater Houston area. Then, pioneered an adult education (GED) course at GCCSA until her retirement. Maria was passionate in educating Houston's most vulnerable and underrepresented. While at both organizations she developed many life-long friendships with faculty, colleagues, students and families.
Maria was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was a devout Catholic and relied on her deeply held faith in times of hardship. She loved her family, cooking for anyone who was hungry, talking to anyone who listened and provided direction for anyone looking for a path.
She will be greatly missed but her memory will live on through our thoughts, prayers and deeds.
A graveside service for Maria will be held Monday, February 7, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ForestParkLawndaleFH.com for the Campos family.
