Maria Esperanza Chavez, lovingly known as Esperanza, passed away peacefully at home on May 25, 2026, at the age of 72. Born on October 21, 1953, Esperanza lived a life marked by steady devotion, quiet courage, and a generous heart that made others feel seen, welcomed, and cared for. She was a beloved presence to many, and her memory will be held with deep respect and enduring affection.

Esperanza was a hard-working woman whose hands and spirit reflected both skill and purpose. She became a seamstress, creating clothing for herself and for others with thoughtful care and patience—work that carried her gentle attention to detail and her desire to give. Over time, she also became a wonderful cook spending years working at Mexican seafood restaurants in the Houston area. At home, those who gathered at her table knew they were receiving more than a meal; they were receiving her warmth, her kindness, and her faithful love expressed in the simplest, most meaningful ways.

She was known for her amazing pupusas and menudo, and somehow anything she cooked always tasted better with her special touch. Esperanza also loved the beach, tropical fruit, and the simple joy of laughing with family. During family bingo nights, she was famous for mischievously snatching someone else’s bingo card the moment they stepped away from the table—an affectionate, humorous spark that kept everyone smiling and drew people closer together.

Esperanza’s compassion extended beyond her home and into the way she lived each day. She enjoyed gardening and had a true green thumb—anything she planted grew—reflecting the same steady, nurturing care she offered to the people she loved. Her life carried resilience and selflessness, and she will be remembered for her honesty, strength, and wisdom, offered quietly but firmly, and always with sincerity.

Esperanza loved life and cherished her family deeply, especially her daughters Maria Griselda Villegas, Melvina Esperanza Villegas, and Jaqueline Graham, and her grandchildren Janelle L. Villegas, Jay C. Soriano, and Jayden C. Villegas. Her loyalty and thoughtful presence were constant, and her love remains a lasting gift to those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Visitation will be held at Earthman Resthaven, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060, on June 5, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Earthman Resthaven, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060, on June 6, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.

A Catered Reception will follow at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, Texas 77060, on June 6, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.

Nacida el 21 de octubre de 1953, Esperanza vivió una vida marcada por una devoción constante, una valentía silenciosa y un corazón generoso que hacía que los demás se sintieran vistos, bienvenidos y cuidados. Fue una presencia querida por muchos, y su memoria será honrada con profundo respeto y un cariño que perdurará.

Esperanza fue una mujer trabajadora cuyas manos y espíritu reflejaban tanto habilidad como propósito. Se convirtió en costurera, creando ropa para ella y para otros con dedicación, paciencia y esmero—trabajo que llevaba su atención delicada al detalle y su deseo de dar. Con el tiempo, también se convirtió en una excelente cocinera, pasando años trabajando en restaurantes de mariscos mexicanos en el área de Houston. Era conocida por sus increíbles pupusas y su menudo, y de alguna manera, todo lo que cocinaba siempre sabía mejor gracias a su toque especial. A Esperanza también le encantaba la playa, las frutas tropicales y la alegría sencilla de reír con su familia. Durante las noches familiares de lotería, era famosa por tomar traviesamente el cartón de alguien en cuanto se levantaba de la mesa—un gesto cariñoso y lleno de humor que mantenía a todos sonriendo y unía aún más a la familia.

La compasión de Esperanza se extendía más allá de su hogar y se reflejaba en la manera en que vivía cada día. Disfrutaba de la jardinería y tenía un verdadero don—todo lo que plantaba crecía—reflejando el mismo cuidado constante y nutritivo que ofrecía a las personas que amaba. Esperanza amaba la vida y valoraba profundamente a su familia, especialmente a sus hijas María Griselda Villegas, Melvina Villegas y Jacqueline Graham, y a sus nietos Janelle L. Villegas, Jay C. Soriano y Jayden C. Villegas. Su lealtad y su presencia atenta fueron constantes, y su amor permanece como un regalo eterno para quienes tuvieron el privilegio de conocerla.
