

Marie Richardson Piercy was born on July 15, 1922 in Flynn, Texas, to John David Richardson and Maude Thomason Richardson. She peacefully began her new life February 7, 2015, surrounded by her family at the age of 92 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 44 years, James Arthur Piercy, Jr., Son, James Arthur Piercy III (Jimmy), and four sisters, Maude Alberta Richardson Paton, Nona Dee Richardson, Mary Maurine Richardson Box and Emma Rebecca Richardson Hnatek. She is survived by Daughter, Emily Marie Piercy George, Houston, TX and Granddaughter, Elizabeth Marie George (Betsy), Chicago, IL; Daughter Kathryn Jane Piercy & Fred Eyerman, Hoschton, GA; Daughter-in-law Darlene Piercy, Deer Park, TX, & Granddaughters Bobbie (Steve) Burnham, Houston; Jessica (Ryan) Rackley, Deer Park, and Karen (Johnny) Fisher, Humble; five Great-Grandchildren (Addison Burnham; Nate & Jake Rackley; and Kaden Jones & Ashley Fisher). She is also survived by Nephews John David (J.D.) Paton, Joe & Corine Paton, Roger & Kathy Paton, and many other grand- Nephews and Grand Nieces.
After spending her early childhood on oil tank farms near Mexia, Texas, Marie graduated from Mexia High School in 1937. Marie graduated from Jefferson Davis Hospital School of Nursing in Houston in 1943. Following graduation, Marie taught Nursing Arts to nursing cadets at Jefferson Davis School of Nursing.
She first met James Arthur Piercy Jr. in about 1927 when as a 5 year old she tried to feed him a mud pie. They met again in San Antonio in 1944 when she attended Incarnate Word for a summer graduate study program and he was living following his service in the US Navy (Pharmacist Mate 3rd class V6 attached to the US Marine Corps as a Medic). They were married on June 21, 1945 in Houston, Texas and settled in Austin where James was a Pharmacy student at the University of Texas. In 1949 they moved Houston. Marie worked at Memorial Baptist Hospital in Houston in the early 1950s & was a stay at home Mother until 1965 when she started working at St. Joseph’s Hospital in the Central Service Department. She was director of that department until 1986. Marie was a long time member of Park Place Lutheran Church and is currently a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer.
She was most proud of being a Registered Nurse, Wife, Mother and Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother. The family wishes to thank the staff and residents of The Abbey at Westminster Plaza for their kindness during the 7 years Marie was a resident and her care givers at The Atrium and especially Doctors Lin Jones, Dr. Pat Martin and the great medical team on the 6th floor of Memorial Hospital Southwest.
Visitation will be today (2-10-15), 5-6 pm for Family, 6-8 pm for Friends at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale, Houston, TX 77023.
Services will be held February 11 at 11 am at Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 5700 Lawndale, Houston TX 77023, with lunch served following the burial.
Procession to graveside will occur immediately on conclusion of funeral. Those who are unable to walk on uneven grass may remain at the church.
