She was born September 7, 1948, in Houston to Lee Read Beeson Sr. and Edith Kathryn Crews Beeson. Marilyn was a graduate of Austin High School and went on to the University of Houston, where she was an active member of Alpha Chi Omega and the University of Houston Cougar Dance Team. She earned both her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in education from the University of Houston. She devoted much of her early career to teaching as a classroom teacher and reading specialist before becoming a devoted stay-at-home mother to her three boys.
Marilyn married Richard Lee Fuqua II on March 29, 1972. Together they raised three sons: Matthew Richard Fuqua (Christan) of Houston; Michael Lee Fuqua (Rachel) of Houston; and Richard L. Fuqua III (Callie) of Midland. She was a beloved grandmother to nine grandchildren: Matt’s three sons — Luke, Graham and Clay Fuqua; Mike’s children — Ben, Claire, and Wells Fuqua; and Trey’s children, Lee, Henry, and Eloise Fuqua.
Marilyn was a member of Chapelwood First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Lee Fuqua II; her sons and their spouses and her grandchildren; her brother John Samuel Beeson and his spouse, Marsha, and the family of her late brother Lee Read Beeson Jr., including his spouse, Ann Beeson, and beloved nieces and nephews.
Marilyn will be remembered most for her love and commitment to her family. We would like to say special thanks to the staff at the Abbey at Westminster and Houston Hospice. A small family graveside gathering will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choosing in Marilyn’s memory.
