Mark Andrew Rosin, 52, of Houston, Texas passed away on December 19, 2024. He was born in Wild Rose, Wisconsin on September 9, 1972, to Carl Rosin and Chris Sarnowski Rosin. Mark is survived by his wife Kelly, children Leo (15) and Eli (11), his mother Chris and his brother Andy. He is preceded in death by his father Carl.
Mark was an avid outdoorsman and loved spending time the woods hunting and fishing. His heart belonged in Wisconsin. He was happiest when he was on the Home Farm hunting with his family. He took pride and joy and shared his love for the outdoors with his two boys Leo and Eli. He was an active member of Troop 55 in Houston as an assistant scout master. Mark shared his love of the outdoors, orienteering, camping, with so many kids.
He graduated from the University of Wisconsin and went to the University of Southern California for his graduate degree. He joined Exxon in 1997. He shared his passion for geology by mentoring many people. His favorite part of the job was being in the field and teaching others about geology. Some of his favorite places to teach were the Big Horn Basin in Wyoming, the West coast of Ireland, and Spain where he did his graduate field work. He was outspoken and known for his quick wit and wry sense of humor that was endearing to many. He always had time to look and offer his perspective on various projects.
Mark had an encyclopedic knowledge of pretty much everything. He was part of the high quiz bowl team in high school. He had a love of learning and was always reading or listening to a podcast. Recently he started cooking and trying all kinds of new recipes. My favorites were the pretzel bites and smores cookies.
Mark fought the good fight against Lymphoma for little over a year. He was not going to let cancer win. He fell while walking into MD Anderson for an appointment looking for additional options and clinical trials. He ultimately died of a brain bleed from the fall. He was determined not to let cancer win. Mark-1 Cancer-0. Well played Mark, you were living life to the fullest until the very end. He had just returned from a hunting trip over Thanksgiving in Wisconsin and went camping with the scouts the weekend before the fall.
A celebration of life will be held on February 2nd at Lodge 88(1435 Beall St.) from 3pm-5pm. The family is asking you to share stories and pictures of your time with Mark. These will be shared with the boys as they get older so they can learn about their father through the eyes of those that knew and loved him.
