Marlene grew up in Southeast Houston and attended Milby High School and later San Jacinto College. Wanting to follow in her brother’s footsteps and become a police officer, she joined the Harris County Sheriff’s Office with academy class B2 1991. Marlene medically retired on April 30, 2002, after serving 12 ½ years with the department working in various units from the jail to transportation.
Sunsets, fields of bluebonnets, yellow roses, traveling, and riding on the back of her husband’s Harley Davidson Ultra Limited were some of her passions. She enjoyed all of them as much as possible before passing away from complications of Covid-19.
Marlene is survived by her husband, David Alster; her two children: daughter, Berri (Matt) Walker and son, Justin (Ashley) Mellen; 5 grandchildren: Elli Walker, Presley Verm, Kaidence Mellen, Adilynn Mellen, and Blakely Mellen; brother, Robert Clark; sister, Lora (Jerry) Daniel; nieces Destiny (Derek) Warner and Ashley Smith; nephew Jerry “Tre” Daniel; mother-in-law Harriet (Rick) Ross; brother-in-law Barry Alster and numerous friends. She is proceeded in death by her father, Claude L. Clark; mother, Ina M. (Mann) Clark; brother, Charles R. Clark; and husband James “Jimmy” C. Keele.
