Marvin was born the son of Albert Arldt and Mathilde Kieschnick Arldt. He was baptized on April 8, 1934 by Pastor C. W. Rische and confirmed on March 30, 1947 by Pastor Paul Brust at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Manheim, Tx. He graduated from the 8th grade at Ebenezer Lutheran in 1947. His confirmation verse was Matthew 6:33 “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.”
On August 7, 1955 he married Bernelle Lydia Bamsch of Serbin, Texas at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Their marriage was blessed with 4 children.
Marvin grew up as a farmer’s son, working on the family farm, as well as working at the farms of neighbors. His dream was to be a pastor, but the family finances wouldn’t allow it. He was active as a teen in Church and the 4H Club. He worked for Allis Chamber and John Deere dealerships and the Sinclair Gas Station in Giddings.
Marvin and Bernelle moved to Houston in 1956. He worked as a machinist at National Flame, General Screw, Marvin’s Machine Works and most recently at Sun Manufacturing from where he retired in 2009.
Marvin and Bernelle joined Gethsemane Lutheran Church where he served on the Boards of Stewardship and Elders and helped build the Sunday School wing. They transferred to Concordia in 1967 where he served on numerous Boards and Committees and taught Sunday School, Midweek School and Adult Bible Class. Marvin sang in the choir, attended most work days, worked with the Braille group and assisted in teaching English class. Marvin visited the sick and elderly on a regular basis and did much more to serve his Lord. He transferred his membership to Messiah Lutheran Church in 2019 but later returned to Concordia.
Marvin was preceded in death by his wife, Bernelle; by his parents, Albert & Mathilde Arldt; by his parents-in-law, Gustav & Lydia Bamsch; by his sister, Mildred Woelfel & husband, Milton; by his brother, Erwin “EA” Arldt & wife Vernie; by his brothers- and sisters-in-law Judy Arldt, Charles & Lillian Bamsch, Marvin Bamsch, Melvin Bamsch and August Herbrich.
