Mary Ann Cooper, 88, of Spring, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, James Melvin Cooper; her parents, Joseph and Dollie; and her siblings, Virginia, Alvin, Jim, Joe Ed, Wilma, Barbara Sue, and Bonnie Joy.
Born on February 26, 1938, Mary Ann was devoted to her family and to those she loved. She met Melvin on a blind date and she knew quickly that he was different from other young men. They married soon after in 1960 and their life together was built on partnership, quiet sacrifice, and deep devotion.
Mary Ann raised five children with warmth and quiet strength, supporting them through all their school and extracurricular activities and keeping their home a place of comfort and welcome. And through all of it, her sense of humor was never far away. She was a great home cook, and family dinner was a constant – her way of keeping everyone close. She also stepped in to help care for her parents and later Melvin’s mother, with the same care and steadiness she always showed.
She is survived by her children, James Cooper Jr., Susan Cooper, Richard Cooper (Kathy Cooper), Nancy Cooper, and Terri Cooper Ramirez (Francisco Ramirez-Gil); her sister, Martha; her brother, Rufus; 11 beloved grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren, who will miss her deeply.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Nicol Garcia, Mary Ann's caregiver, whose love and dedication brought joy, comfort, and peace to Mary Ann in her last eight months. Nicol’s presence gave the family immeasurable peace of mind.
We are grateful for every meal shared, every door left open, and every moment she made us feel we were exactly where we were supposed to be. Though she will be greatly missed, there is comfort in the love she shared and the memories she left with us.
“Her children arise and call her blessed.” –Proverbs 31:28
