

At age 7 the family moved to a 10 acre farm in Houston, Texas where Mary Joe would reside for 82 years.
Mary Joe graduated from Aldine High School in 1949, attended business school before starting her career with Mitchell Energy Company, retiring after 30 years.
Mary Joe led a full life. She was a dutiful daughter to her parents. She traveled all over the United States, made several trips to Europe. She went to Egypt, Rome, and soaked in the sites of Alaska.
In the 70’s, she enjoyed participating in a photography club and activities with her sorority club. She played the piano for a homeless shelter in downtown Houston.
Mary Joe was a member of Memorial Baptist Church for several decades before attending Burean Baptist Church. She played the piano for the church.
She enjoyed visiting thrift stores, museums, and eating at the Black Labrador restaurant. She REALLY enjoyed anything sweet! Desserts were her favorite part of any meal.
Mary Joe was known for speaking her mind no matter the situation. There was never a misunderstanding where she stood. She was one tough cookie so no one pushed her around. She was a long time financial supporter of the Arts and museums and numerous animal rescue and rehabilitation organizations.
She had a deep love of dogs and adored her dog “Greta” who was always by her side.
In 2019, Mary Joe moved in with her niece, Mary “Tootie” and husband Jerry, in Barry, Texas. Over the next 2 years, Mary Joe’s mobility declined yet Tootie and Jerry still took her to Zoos, Aquariums, thrift stores, wildlife parks, and numerous restaurants. They all became members of Blooming Grove Baptist Church in Blooming Grove, Texas.
On Tuesday, March 29th, while playing cards with her niece and ladies at church,
Without warning Mary Joe experienced a heart attack. She then, experienced a second one at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas. While there, she made it known that she wanted to be allowed to pass peacefully with no further assistance. She was transported home where she was able to see family and friends, and most of all, her beloved dog “Greta”.
On the evening of April 5, 2022, Mary Joe finished her nightly scoop of ice cream, turned off her TV, and with Greta by her side, peacefully passed over to be with Jesus her Savior. She was 91 years old.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Edna Danquard, brother Ernest Danquard, and brother Charles W. Danquard, Sr.
Survived by niece, Carole Sonmor, nephew, Charles W. Danquard, Jr., niece, Mary “Tootie” Danquard Gerloff and husband Jerry Gerloff. Great Nephews, Lee Sonmor, Kyle Sonmor, Taylor Gerloff, Great Niece, Payton Gerloff Groves and husband James Groves. Great-Great Nephew, Dewayne Gerloff and Great-great Niece, Railynn Groves.
A visitation for Mary will be held Tuesday, April 12, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060. Following the visitation will be a graveside service from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060.
