

Mary Edith Grant of Houston died on Monday, November 14, 2011, at the age of 89. A native of Florida, she was a long time resident of Spring Branch and active member of Clay Road Baptist Church, 9151 Clay Road, where services were held at 11 AM, Thursday, November 17. Visitation was 5-7 PM Wednesday, November 16, at Waltrip Funeral Home, 1415 Campbell Road. Honorary pallbearers were members of her Sunday School Class. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to her church.
Mary Edith was devoted to her church. She was a founding board member of the Clay Road Baptist School. For many years she also worked weekly in the church’s inner city mission work. Formerly, in her church in Florida, she worked part-time in the church nursery and served on the nursery committee. For many years she also had a cake decorating business which grew into a wedding reception catering service.
Mary Edith was first widowed with three young children when her husband Oliver Pierce Geeting was killed in a train accident. Later she married Reginald C. Grant of Dunedin, Florida, to whom she was married for 28 years, prior to his death in 1977.
Mary Edith had a most amazing green thumb. Anything she rooted or planted flourished. Her yard was adorned with an array of flowering and ornamental plantings.
Mary Edith was an attentive grandmother and proud to have a growing number of great grandchildren.
Above all, Mary Edith Grant was a woman of simple but deep faith, who sought to enact her faith in her daily life.
