Mary Lucile (Day) Maynard was born in Iola, Texas on Thursday, August 9, 1928 to parents, Howell H. Day and Linnie Mae (Landers) Day. She passed away in Houston, Texas on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at the age of 85.
Mary is survived by her husband William Lambert Maynard and her daughter, Cynthia Denise Maynard. Also surviving are her sisters, Mildred Teets and Doddie Guerrero; brother, Carl Day and his wife Juanita; nephews, Doug Otto, Gary Day, Randy Teets; very special neighbors, Wayne Meadows, Harold Goodman, and long lasting friends, Norma and Charles Phillips.
Mary was a dedicated employee of Humble Oil, and M & J Valve Co. which became Daniel Industries, in bookkeeping and accounting. Her husband, William, is a native Houstonian. He worked for Brown & Root, Kellogg, Fisher and others, on co-generation plants, water plants, etc., including the Alaskan Pipeline in Alaska. Her daughter Cynthia, also born in Houston, worked for many years in Houston at Southwest Attorney Services. Mary sent her daughter to college to study art at California Institute of the Arts. She later sent Cynthia to study Anthropology at the University of Houston where she graduated. Mary also paid for her daughter to study musical theater at Theater Under The Stars in Houston, as well as private singing lessons.
Mary liked living in the city. She attended First Baptist Church Spring Branch with her family from 1964 to 2012. For Christmas and Thanksgiving, Mary took the family to her father's farm for an "old fashioned" holiday time together with the other relatives. Mary grew up on a farm and was very gifted at gardening. It never looked hard for her to garden. In the 1970's, Mary worked and cooked many southern dishes for dinner. She kept track of the family finances and was very talented at ironing.
Family and friends gathered at a visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 17 at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston, where funeral services were held in the chapel at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 18, with Reverend M. Eugene Vickrey officiating. Interment followed at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
Honored to serve as pallbearers were Gary Day, Doug Otto, Alex Berwick, Jeremy Hill, Daryl Walker, Harold Goodman, Floyd Krennerich and Wayne Meadows.
