It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a wonderful woman and mother to all, Mary “Mama” Navarro. Mama was born on March 10, 1929, in Partridge, Kansas, and went home to be with the Lord and her heavenly family on January 14, 2025, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 95. She is preceded in death by her parents, Felipe Campos and Trinidad Rojas; siblings, Concepcion “Connie” Morales, Jose Campos, Valentine Campos, Corporal Alberto R. Campos (World War II), and Susie Adame; and daughters, Mary C. Salas and Mary Ann Perez.
Mama was known for her kind heart and nurturing soul. She was a protector, opening her home to many throughout her life. Mama loved everyone and was a source of strength during difficult times and a symbol of comfort and peace during chaotic moments. She remembered details of people whom she encountered over the years and adopted friends into her family. Mama was personable, a faithful woman, a powerful pillar, and a true example of strength and resilience. Mama had a great sense of humor and always had a good story to tell. She enjoyed praying the rosary, crocheting, watching nóvelas, had a love for Lassie even though she was fearful of dogs, and singing songs by Vicente Fernández and Juan Gabriel. She loved the color lavender, drinking root beer, eating marranitos, and curly fries from Jack in the Box. For everyone, when you visited Mama, you came home.
Mama is survived by her son, Arthur C. Navarro, and his wife, Norma D. Navarro; two daughters, Helen R. Eguia and her husband Steve Eguia, and Estella Ramirez; sister, Margaret Torres, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Mama was the matriarch of the family, one of a kind, and will be dearly missed.
A visitation for Mary will be held Monday, January 20, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023, with a rosary at 6:30 PM.
