Mary Ann Van Bibber

Born on January 19, 1933, in Houston, Texas, Mary Ann was the daughter of John Wilbur Van Bibber and Virginia Mabel Rutland Van Bibber. Mary Ann is the great, great granddaughter of William Barton Wade Dent, US Congressman representing the state of Georgia in the 33rd Congress, and founder of the city of Newnan, Georgia.

Family was the cornerstone of Mary Ann's life. She is survived by her devoted sister, Willa Jane Wolfe, and her beloved nieces and nephews: Jamie Van Bibber-James, Kelly Van Bibber, Chrisanne Wolfe, Laura Wright, Ben Wolfe, and John Wilbur Van Bibber III. Her longtime caregiver, Teresa Jackson, held a special place in her heart, and the family extends their deepest gratitude to Teresa for her unwavering support and care.

Mary Ann was predeceased by her loving parents, her brother John Wilbur Van Bibber Jr., her sister Eleanor Van Bibber Gunter, brother-in-law Walter Gunter Jr., sister-in-law Sandra Van Bibber, brother-in-law Ben F. Wolfe Sr., and nephew Walter Gunter III. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life.

Mary Ann was a nurturing soul whose life was devoted to the care and well-being of others. Her journey in nursing began in the 1950s when she graduated from the prestigious St. Joseph's Nursing School. She dedicated over 25 years to St. Joseph's Hospital in Houston, Texas, where she worked as a nurse and rose to the position of Head Nurse on the post-surgery recovery floor. Her commitment to patient care was unparalleled, and she touched countless lives with her kindness and professionalism. After retiring from St. Joseph's Hospital, Mary Ann embarked on a second career with the VNA Visiting Nurses Association, where her compassionate nature continued to shine. Her dedication to her profession was matched only by her love for her family and community. Mary Ann was a longtime member of various church communities, where she found solace and strength in her faith.

Mary Ann shared a deep and heartfelt connection with the Sargent, TX community, a place she came to call home after her retirement. Over the years, her care for the community was reflected in the time, energy, and generosity she offered in support of others. She will be remembered with gratitude for her devotion to Sargent and for the meaningful fundraising support she provided to the Sargent, TX Volunteer Fire Department, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, service, and community spirit.

She embraced life with a vibrant personality and a generous heart, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Her love for adventure and the outdoors was evident in her early years when she enjoyed fishing and outdoor activities.

Mary Ann Van Bibber's life was a testament to the power of care and dedication. She leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will be cherished by all who knew her. Rest in peace, dear Mary Ann; your spirit will forever illuminate our hearts.

A Graveside Service will be held at Forest Park Lawndale on August 15, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
