Matilde Reyna Torres was born in Peru, the third of seven children. Reyna was a loving, sweet, smart, resilient, independent and very strong-minded woman. A single mother, she held a position at the Institute of Health in La Oroya, Peru, and raised four successful and well-educated children. After her eldest daughter Luisa started college, she earned a degree in accounting. She retired from her position as Assistant Director of Administration at the Instituto Nacional Ocupacional de Salud and moved to Texas to stay close to her daughters and grandchildren.
She is survived by her four children, Luisa, Celia, Lourdes, and Martín. Reyna loved taking care of her grandchildren, Anton, Katrina, Alejandra, Martin Jr., and Omar, and always helped her sisters and nieces in the United States and in Peru. No labor was too much: she always woke up early in the morning to make sure breakfast was warm and ready for her grandchildren.
A sweet and good-hearted person, she never hesitated to help anyone who needed it. Reyna loved to make jokes and pranks and always managed to make you smile. She touched so many people’s hearts and will be missed tremendously by her children, grandchildren, her family in Peru, and friends.
Rest in Peace my darling mother.
