September 10, 1921September 12, 2013

Maurice Edward Calaway Loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend joined his beloved Loyce when he entered Heaven’s gates on September 12, 2013.

Maurice was a gentile spirit, who was gracious, kind and considerate. He was born on September 10, 1921, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Dillard Edwin Calaway and Gladys Bolinger Calaway. Maurice was a 1939 graduate of Pine Bluff High School who obtained his associate degree at Arkansas Tech in 1941. He attended the University of Arkansas where his studies were briefly interrupted by World War II. The US Army drafted him, where he served as a Recruiter at the Pine Bluff Army Recruiting Station. He was honorably discharged and returned to the University of Arkansas where he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi and the University of Arkansas Marching band. Subsequent to his graduation with a BS, he began his first job as a Meter Reader with Arkansas Louisiana Gas. After marrying Loyce Irene Smith, he spent the remainder of his career in sales with Natural Gas Odorizing, a subsidiary of Helmerich & Payne from which he retired in 1991.

Maurice had many passions in life including his family, traveling, and trying anything new. He also had numerous hobbies that ran the gambit from reading, particularly the works of Horatio Alger and the Wall Street Journal to sports. He adored collecting everything from antiques with Loyce to limousines and Lionel trains. Later in life he especially enjoyed spending time with friends and family in Muldoon, Texas.

He is preceded in death by--his loving wife of over forty-six years Loyce Irene Smith Calaway, his parents, and his brother, James Henry Calaway. Left to cherish his memory are his four children--Maureen Antoinette Calaway, Delisa Calaway Burton, Phillip Bolinger Calaway and wife Marita Reinhardt Calaway, and David Carlton Calaway; six grandchildren-- Jennifer Calaway Rodriguez and husband Gabriel Omar Rodriguez, Matthew Trent Burton, Jacob Dillard Calaway and wife Shannon Alexander Calaway, Joseph Maurice Calaway, Phillip Daniel Calaway, and Christopher Jeremy Calaway; great-grandson Cruz Fisher Rodriguez; nephew, Jamie Calaway; and caregiver Loretta Opara.

Everyone gathered at a visitation on Monday, September 16th from 5:00pm until 8:00pm, at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston Texas. His Memorial Service began at 10:00am on Tuesday, September 17th, at Fair Haven Methodist Church, 1330 Gessner in Houston. Graveside services and interment followed at 3:00pm at Pitman Cemetery, 1229 Muldoon Cemeteries Lane, in Muldoon Texas.

I am very sorry for your loss. It is with heavy hearts that we let our loved ones go, but with joy that, as people filled with salvation, we know the life they are going to and that we will join them again one day. Praise God we have that salvation.
