Mauricio was born in Havana, Cuba to Delia Castro Navarrete and Gustavo Navarrete. He graduated from the University of Georgia, Class of 1955. Mauricio came to the United States in the mid-sixties and moved to Houston in 1974. He worked for many years as an interpreter for the State Department of the United States in the International Visitors Program.
Mauricio is survived by his sister, Silvia Martinez, his nephew Carlos Martinez and wife, Janet, nieces Cecilia Zollars, Cristina Martinez, Irene Misamore and husband, Michael, Laura Alvarez and husband, Frank. He also leaves his cousin Robert Castro and wife, Elda plus a host of great-nieces and nephews and many friends. We love him and will miss him very much.
A memorial mass will be held at five o'clock in the afternoon on Monday, January 3, 2011, in the sanctuary of St. Justin Martyr Catholic Church, 13350 Ashford Point Drive in Houston, Texas 77082.
