She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved son Jay.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda and husband Sonny, and Daughter-in-Law, Joann.
Called Mema by her grandchildren, she was also blessed with 6 grandchildren, Dennise, Bobby, Shelly, Jamie, Stacey, and Ronny; and by 9 great-grandchildren, Samantha, Phillip, Dylan, Melinda, Kayla, Jay, Shelby, Kaleb and Derrick; and 3 great-great grandchildren, Justin, Jacob, and Kaylee . She passed before knowing that one more great-great is on the way. She would have been so pleased to know about that. She also gained a wonderful family of 3 step grandchildren: Lisa, Lori and Greg; and 6 step great grandchildren, Tayler, Blain, Kaylee, Myles, Madison and Sam. She was also blessed with the wonderful spouses of her grandchildren, Sonja, Dale, Stephanie, Paul, Henry, Carlos, Bo and Sonia.
She lived most of her childhood in San Antonio and then relocated to the Houston/Bellaire area where she raised her children and worked many years as an Executive Secretary. After retirement, she resided with Joann for a period and the remainder of her life with Linda. She became very close to her son-in law, Sonny. Both she and Sonny developed funny little noises, routine gestures, and teasing between the two of them that became signature to their relationship. God truly blessed her for bringing Sonny into her book of life. Linda especially wants to acknowledge her eternal love and appreciation for all the love, care and enjoyment that Sonny gave to her Mother throughout the past 16 years.
She always looked forward to family gatherings and spending time with all the grandchildren. She would try her best to join in the activities and just go with the flow. One of her favorite things to look forward to in her later years was to go visit her cousin Doyce in California. The two of them would always find something fun to do and had so much in common. They became the best of buddies and could talk on the phone for hours at a time.
She also looked forward to every Thursday. Thursday was beauty shop day. She became so attached and fell in love with her beautician, Bekki Long. Bekki gave her a gift of love and dedicated friendship besides making her so pretty each Thursday! Any time that plans were made, she would say, “Well, I am going to see Bekki on Thursday.”
She will be missed by those that were touched by her throughout the years. Everyone always commented on how sweet she was. Each family member will always have the gift of their own personal memories and experiences of Mother and Mema. She has so much love from all to take with her to join Jay and her parents.
