

Michael Lee Sanders was born on August 30, 1952 in Houston, Texas to O.L. Sanders, Jr. and Mary Louise Sanders. Michael was the second of seven children. After graduating from Milby High School in 1970 he attended the University of Houston for three years. Michael then dedicated 39 years of his career to the United States Postal Service (USPS).
Michael was very active and athletic and had a love for all sports. He played baseball growing up and participated on USPS softball teams. He loved animals and treated his dogs, Lexi and Khloe, as part of the family. Michael loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Michael and his youngest granddaughter, Skylar, were baptized together on March 22, 2015. This was a very special day for both of them and “Papa” was so proud.
Michael was diagnosed with Glioblastoma in January 2013. After a long fight against this terrible disease that included two major surgeries and years of chemotherapy and radiation his body was tired. God called him home on April 5, 2017 at the young age of 64.
Michael is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Sanders Sanchez, husband Jose Sanchez, and Kristin Sanders. He is survived by grandchildren, who lovingly called him Papa, Taylor Sanders, Skylar Sanders, and JJ Sanchez. He is also survived by siblings Stephanie Lankford, Brian Sanders, and Dana Sanders. Michael was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Judy Sanders, Gary Sanders, and Jerry Sanders.
Michael’s sweet and caring nature will be remembered by all who knew him. He was a very special man and will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
