Pat,  I remember how you would always light up when you talked about Mike and I remember when you were dating and your wedding.  You and Mike were so happy together.  He will always be with you everyday.   May you find comfort in the days to come.

I have known and worked extensively with Mike Wooley for over 26 years starting when Mike joined TC&B around the mid 90’s.  Since that time, Mike has been a great mentor, peer, and friend who always took time to help me understand and learn about aspects of electrical engineering as we worked together on the many projects throughout the years.  I was always impressed by his dedication to the client, the project, and engineering a deliverable with virtually zero defects.  This was something that I try to emulate to this day based on his and others teachings.   Mike was one of the great engineers in the industry and is widely recognized as such.  He leaves large shoes to fill and he will be and is already greatly missed. Rest in Peace Mike.

We did not know Mike but his brother Jimmy is a very dear friend. We know Jimmy deeply cared for Mike and that it was difficult for Jimmy to see Mike in pain. God bless the Wooley family with peace and comfort at this time.

In 1970 I raced the Texas Water Safari with Mike Wooley.  In those early days of the race, teams were not given food or water.  And you could either get your water out of the river or, if you could find a hydrant somewhere (and the owner didn’t shoot you) you were allowed to drink that water.  Most folks drank river water and purified it with Halazone tablets.  These tablets produce chlorine gas and that is what kills all the bad stuff in the water.  I learned during this particular race that chlorine gas can also kill people.  

One chemist I talked to later said he always used half the recommended dosage of Halazone, waited twice the amount of recommended time for the chemicals to do their thing and then carefully opened the lid of the drinking container and blew away the chlorine gas before ever taking a drink.

Anyway, once Mike and I reached Victoria, he assured me that he knew of a water hydrant, close to the river, in Victoria City Park, with some of the best tasting water in Texas.  Since the river water had already developed a less than desirable flavor by that time, I agreed to let him search for that elusive hydrant.  We stopped numerous times and never found it.  So, once we reached the Moody Street Bridge in downtown Victoria we reluctantly filled our drink jugs with Guadalupe River water.

The water looked pretty bad, so we doubled the dosage of Halazone. And we were mighty thirsty, so we waited half the recommended time.  And we were blissfully unaware of the chlorine gas so we didn’t blow it away.  Instead we guzzled that water (and gas) right down.

Sometime later, I noticed that Mike sounded a whole lot like Donald Duck.  So much so that I died laughing (well, almost).  Then I regained my composure enough tell him why I was laughing and realized that I sounded like Donald as well.

I Googled our symptoms today and found this description of our malady: “Vocal Cord Dysfunction after an Inhalation Exposure”
Nonetheless, finished 2nd place.

My heart goes out to to the family for this loss. My love and prayers remain with Pat  and the children during this time of healing, remembering and moving forward.

Michael was one of the first mentors I had as a new engineer in Kalluri Group. His expertise in his field and attention to detail gave me invaluable guidance at the start of my career. He was an engineer to the core, as even his vacation photos would convey some valuable information. It was an honor to know and work with such a great person. May he rest in peace.

Knowing Michael was a blessing, working with Mr. Wooley was an Honor and being around Mike was always a learning experience.  From my observations Mike's Happy Place was any river with a little bit of white water and no portages.  A constant Boy Scout, in everything he said and did, with a mixture of strength and compassion not often found in a Human.  Almost "Spock" like in his use of Logic and Reason it could get frustrating for mere mortals.  I miss you my friend.       

I remember Mike as a highly skilled engineer. One who I could always depend on to produce a quality design that supported the many projects he was assigned.  Mike was a “constant” in the office. Pleasant to work with, hard working, and diligent. He always greeted me with a smile and “How’s it going Chuck?”  While I haven’t spoken to Mike in a number of years I am saddened to know he has moved on from amidst our group of past TC&B engineers. Yet, I rejoice in knowing he is now in the enveloping embrace of our Lord. 

Mike made a strong impression on me as a young inexperienced engineer starting my career. He was very prepared and detailed in his work and helped guide me in ensuring the designs we prepared together were high quality. I found him to be very dedicated and proud of his work.  I am very thankful for the time spent together as he really molded me into the Engineer I am due to his strong example of  what it means to take pride in your work. The industry will miss him dearly as he was one of the best darn Engineers we had.  He could be tough sometimes to deal with but only because he believed in his work. When you really got to know him, you understood just how dedicated he truly was and believed in providing superior products for clients and their interests.  He enjoyed his adventurous trips with his kids and time spent with his spouse.  I pray for the family and friends peace in this difficult time.
