Ms. Nelda Colleen Schell

Nelda Colleen Grantham was born July 27, 1930 in Franklin, Texas. She later moved to Houston and attended Sam Houston High School where she met the love of her life of 60 years, Richard Robert Schell Jr. After graduation, class of 1947, she and Richard were married at Zion Lutheran Church in Houston.

Nelda and Richard built their life in Houston where they started a family and built an enduring network of friends. Nelda loved nature, flowers, gardening, animals, playing dominoes, cooking, and baking, where she became well known for her specialty, banana pudding.

Later, with the arrival of her first grandchild Nelda became "MeMaw" and poured herself into her family, caring deeply for her grandchildren and eventual great grandchildren, while aiding her mother prior to her passing.

Nelda found friends everywhere she went, grew to love Dr. Pepper, and she never missed an appointment with the hairdresser.

After Richard's passing in 2008, Nelda resided with her son Rick and his wife Sandra, then upon their retirement moved with them to Lake Palestine in Chandler, TX until her passing in Palestine, TX on October 3, 2023.

As we say goodbye to our beloved "MeMaw", our hearts can feel at peace in knowing she was a faithful believer in Jesus Christ as her Lord & Savior. Nelda will be sorely missed but will live on forever in our hearts and will be thought of every time we see her very favorite insect, the beautiful Butterfly.

Nelda is survived by her two sons, David M Schell and Rick R Schell; grandchildren, Jason B Schell and Robyn R Boren; and great grandchildren, Nathan Schell, Luke Schell, and Daniel Boren.

A visitation for Nelda will be held Friday, October 20, 2023 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Earthman Resthaven, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060. A funeral service will occur Friday, October 20, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060. A committal service will occur Friday, October 20, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060.
