OBITUARY

NETTIE STUBBLEFIELD

November 23, 1923August 24, 2020

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7 Nettie Young was born on November 23, 1923 to Albert and Eva Young, in Raccourci, Louisiana, Pointe Coupee Parish she was the ninth of fourteen children.

She received her early education in Morganza, Louisiana and later continued her education by attending the Adult Education Program sponsored by The Houston Independent School District.

Raised in a devout Christian home, she accepted Christ at an early age while a member of Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church in Morganza where she was baptized by then pastor, the late Rev. Glasper. Upon moving to Houston she united with Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in the 4th Ward. She later relocated to the Clinton Park Addition, one of the first African-American neighborhoods established in the Houston area, where she united with Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. W. R. Fuller. After her brother the late Rev. C. B. Young accepted the pastoral leadership of Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church in 1961 she move her membership there, where she has served faithfully for fifty-nine years under several pastors, currently under Rev. Hosea Bailey. She was also currently a great supporter of Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.

During her Christian walk she has served faithfully in various capacities: Mission President and teacher, Choir President, Deaconess, and Sunday School teacher. A woman of great faith with a desire to please God in all of her ways, she was also a faithful member of The Mission Workshop Fellowship Support Group for over twenty years, where Sis. Annie Owens is the current president.

In the late 1940’s Nettie met the love of her life Booker T. Stubblefield, they were united in holy matrimony in 1948, two children were born to this union. however four children blessed this union. She was employed for many years by Sheltering Arms as a private caregiver, she was often requested by families who had heard of her compassionate care and outstanding work ethic. She was in her 80’s when she retired from Sheltering Arms.

Nettie is preceded in death by her parents Albert and Eva Young; husband: Booker T. Stubblefield; sons: James and Lionel Stubblefield; stepdaughters: Verdale and Georgia Stubblefield; brothers: Cleveland, Andrew, Alfred, Henry, Wilbert, Rev. Charles B. and Alex Young; sisters: Olivia Young, Theresa Young-Harris, Minerva Adams and Ceolia Thompson.

To cherish her memory of a life well lives she leaves daughters Eva Stubblefield and Patsey Walker(Floyd).both of Houston, Texas.

Grandchildren: Tonya Walker-Bell(Terance) John Walker(Michelle) Dionne Walker and adopted granddaughter Benita Campbell.

Great grandchildren: Mari, Mariah, Jonnicia, Jamar, Josiah and Nicholas. Also a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The legacy she leaves as a vibrant, compassionate, God fearing servant will linger in the hearts and minds of all who crossed her path throughout eternity.
