

Octavia Burton Seitzler was born August 24, 1924 in Cedar Spring, near Rosebud, Texas to Willis and Winnie Dickey Burton. She graduated from Rosebud High School in 1941, Mary Hardin Baylor College (now known as University of Mary Hardin Baylor) with a Centennial class, with a B.S. in Homemaking, May 1945, the University of Houston, 1947, with a M.E. Mrs. Seitzler attended Lamar University, North Harris County Community College, and Sam Houston University to acquire training in Special Education and Junior High Math. Her first teaching was in September, 1945 at Cypress Fairbanks High School. She taught in Missouri City High and in the Houston I.S.D. She retired from teaching in May 1984, after 35 years of teaching. Twenty five years with the Aldine Schools, then at Stovall Middle School.
Harry M. Seitzler and Doris Octavia Burton were married, January 22, 1948. They lived their entire married life in Houston, Texas. He retired from Armco Steel in May 1980 after 30 years with that company. They traveled throughout the United States for weeks each years and several vacations outside the United States.
Octavia is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Seitzler, her parents and two brothers, Robert and E.L. (Bill) Burton. She is survived by her children, Gary M. Seitzler of Houston; Doris Elaine (Dee) Brimer and husband, Nelson of Huntsville; grandchildren, Kelly Pullin of Houston, Melanie Brimer Sumabat of Moody, Roy Brimer of Midland, Jason Seitzler and Eric Seitzler of Memphis; great-grandchildren, Krista and Ashtan Pullin, Don Mason and Megan Wyble, Ashley and Cody Brimer, Katelynn Seitzler, Seth, Caleigh, Brenden, Lane Pullin, Mia and Brydgitte Wyble and Jessica Brimer; along with Isaac and Maliki.
After her retirement she became active in bowling, usually senior leagues, was secretary to two leagues for a great number of years, traveling, oil painting, crafts and the Eastern Star. She is a member and Past Matron of Melrose #920 Order of the Eastern Star of Texas. She served in appointed positions in the chapter also. She was also a member of Memorial Baptist Church.
