Ofelia Herrera

Ofelia Gonzalez Herrera joined her Lord and Savior on September 17, 2016. This wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many lived an extraordinary and full life before a battle with cancer took her. Ofelia was born in Monterrey, Mexico and received her beautician’s license at the young age of 12 years old. She came to Houston shortly after, and eventually opened a hair salon that she owned and operated for 45 years. Ofelia is predeceased by her parents, Ofelia and Oscar Gonzalez, and her husband’s parents, Carlotta and Lisnardo Herrera. Ofelia is survived by her adoring husband of 42 years, Robert Lisnardo Herrera, and her children; son, Jason Armenta and wife Aron; daughter, Ofelia Herrera Vujasinovic and husband Vuk; daughter, Sofia Herrera Massey and husband Owen; daughter, Andrea Herrera Parks; and son, Roland Herrera and wife Jennifer. Ofelia’s grandchildren include Austin and Evan Parks, Morgan Childers, Adysen and Ryan Armenta, Isa, Nikola and Sava Vujasinovic, Northrop, Miles and Ofelia Blake Massey. She is also survived by her siblings; Yolanda Gonzalez, Sonia Gonzalez Salas, Salvador Gonzalez and Leticia Gonzalez Griewe.

Ofelia was an entrepreneur. As a hairdresser and salon owner, she loved making her clients look and feel beautiful, and she also loved her employees as if they were her family. Ofelia loved to entertain, cook and travel with her family and friends. Her greatest love was spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, and creating lasting memories with them.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, with a rosary service at 7:00 pm. A memorial mass will be conducted on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 10:30AM at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road with her burial service to follow. Floral arrangements may be sent to Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home starting on Tuesday morning. Donations in Ofelia's memory may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
