On July 4, 1928, the 5th child, a beautiful daughter named Ora Lee Boulding, was born in Houston, Texas to Elder Benjamin Edwin Boulding and Callie Alberta Rodgers Boulding. With two suckling babies besides this new baby, Big Mama did not have enough milk for Little Ora Lee. So, when Little Ora Lee was nothing but skin and bones at nine months old, her grandmother, Mother Lillie Alberta Elizabeth Evangeline Adams Rodgers Bostick, adopted her and took Ora to live with her in Brookshire, Texas.
Under her grandmother’s tender-loving care with fresh country air, homegrown organic fruit and vegetables along with fresh whole milk, this Little Ora Lee not only survived, but she thrived and excelled in every area of her life, including graduating as valedictorian of her high school class.
This missionary had her first job at age 4 carrying fresh produce from their 50 acre home garden to their family-owned grocery store and to neighbors who were sick and/or shut-in. She expressed her gift of music through the piano and organ and as a teenager became the minister of music at The Church of God In Christ #1, which later became Grant Memorial. These two jobs of hers were the beginnings of her life-long ministry of music, feeding and caring for others and proclaiming the Word of The Christ.
Ma-Ma’, as this grandmother was lovingly called, instilled in Ora Lee a love for ministry through daily reading, teaching and the living out of ABBA Father, YHWH’s Word. Days were filled with Bible studies, praise and worship and prayer time at home as a family. It was the norm for them 6 to 7 days and/or nights per week, to attend services, district meetings, revivals and more at the church. If there was no evening service scheduled at the church building, there was sure to be an evening service at home.
After high school graduation, Ora Lee and three friends…. Thurman Grant, Johnnie Kelley Sr, and Bessie Tryals….Formed a gospel quartet that traveled and performed in area churches throughout Texas. This quartet became 2 couples who eventually married and all of them remained best of friends for life.
Out of the union of Ora Lee and Thurman Grant came seven beautiful, blessed children….Bishop Dr MachéoBoulding-Delagraentiss, Pastor Keith A. Grant, Thurman Grant Jr., Lillie A. Dotson, Donald H. Grant, LaNell Blackshire, and Calvin W. Grant.
Throughout this Missionary’s life, she diligently listened to ABBA Father’s leading to develop and implement great and wonderful “creative ideas & witty inventions” to include authoring 4 incredibly received, award winning books which include Hog Pen (available on Kindle), Ladies Don’t Argue in the Bedroom and David and Bathsheba Hada One Night Stand.
Not only did she write books, but for many years she wrote a weekly newspaper column that consisted of a“Sunday School lesson” where she would exegete the scripture being taught. Many Sunday School teachers and pastors across several county lines, color lines and church denominational lines counted on this column to use in their classes as their own commentary each week.
Missionary Ora Lee established a 501(c)3 called Ora Grant Ministries through which she continued the “Work of the Ministry” already developed. For the purpose of implementation, Ora Lee personally purchased a 15 seater van and a series of other new vehicles to facilitate the health, wealth and longevity of those to whom she ministered through her anointing.
These ministries included the first “Meals on Wheels” program, in which she personally carried out the delivery of the food over many years to thousands; a transportation service for many women traveling daily from Brookshire and surrounding areas to do domestic work in the neighborhoods of the elite Memorial area of Houston; and in 1997, she opened a Men’s Homeless shelter in the 5th Ward area of Houston, under the auspices of Showers of Blessing ministry. She chose not to accept any governmental funding in order to be able to preach an uncompromising gospel of ABBA Father’s Word.
Preceding Ora Lee in their transitions were her parents, Mother Lillie Alberta Elizabeth Evangeline Adams Rodgers Bostick, Elder Benjamin Edwin Boulding and Callie Alberta Rodgers Boulding; her extra sisters and brothers, Lillie Odessa Lindsey, Celestine Baul, 2 step brothers, Sherman Bostick, and Lawrence H. Bostick; her siblings, Bennie Earl Boulding, Charles M. Boulding, Dr. Donald Edwin Boulding Sr., Ruth Boulding Hawkins, Lillie Boulding Tingle,Heti B. Boulding Lloyd, Dorothy K. Boulding Lewis, Calvin R. Boulding, Minister Laurence H. Boulding, and Rose M.Boulding Nelms; her sons, Thurman Jr. Grant and Calvin W. Grant; and 2 great great grandchildren.
District Missionary Ora Lee Boulding-Delagraentiss leaves to cherish her loving memory, 5 of her 7 beautiful blessed children, 17 wonderful grandchildren, 23 gorgeous great grandchildren and 4 exuberant, bouncing great-great grandchildren.
While celebrating the illustrious life and legacy of this awesome Lady, Lay Pastor and Leader, we will all miss her Million dollar smile that would light up every room and every heart and mind in that room. We will all miss her infectious love, light and laughter as she exemplified in real life, exactly what she preached, taught, prayed and prophesied to and through a litany of churches, ministries, civic organizations, and through her television talk show entitled, “Ora’s Show,” and her own radio show being broadcasted on Radio Station, 1500 AM called, “The Showers of Blessings,” teaching ABBA Father’s Word to the masses…. “And her works will follow her.”
