

Oscar Lee Dempsey, age 85, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2016 after a long battle with COPD. Born in Houston, Texas, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann, and grandson, Coby Pershall. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Juanita; seven sons – Steven, Richard, Alan, Brian, James, Darryl and Johnny Dempsey; three daughters – Cindy Pershall Schindewolf, Valerie Dempsey Blum and Lisa Hitchins Vreeke; and two step-daughters – Ceil Shelton (deceased) and Connie Barrett. His legacy includes 33 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He loved his family and enjoyed traveling across the country. As a member of the Army Medical Corp, he also served his country honorably in the occupying Army in Japan under General Douglas MacArthur. He retired from Houston Belt and Terminal Railroad after 45 years of service. Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 15, 2016 at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home. The Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 16, 2016 in the Chapel of Earthman Resthaven. Entombment will follow at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.
