

Paul Lester Tausend, M.D. (“Doc”), passed away peacefully on July 26, 2015 at age 95. He was born February 18, 1920, in Minden, Iowa. His family moved to Houston, Texas in 1927. He graduated from John H. Reagan High School in 1937. He graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1942 and remained a loyal Texas Ex. He was accepted into medical school at UTMB in Galveston and graduated in 1950. While at UTMB he met his future wife, Ruby Ludwig, and they were married September 6, 1948 in New Braunfels, Texas.
After his graduation from The University of Texas in 1942 he joined the US Navy and was sent to Midshipman School at Columbia University. He served on the USS Paul Hamilton as a Lieutenant and participated in action in the Pacific Theatre. He maintained life long friendships with members of the Paul Hamilton.
Upon completion of medical school in Galveston, Paul and Ruby moved to Houston and then Pasadena where he started his practice in family medicine. He treated countless family members in the community including delivering over 1,000 babies. He was one of the original founders of Bayshore Hospital in Pasadena.
Paul Tausend was a loving husband, father and grandfather and is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruby; five children and their spouses, Patricia Pardi, and husband, Marco; son, Thomas Tausend and wife, Lucy; son, Robert Tausend, M.D. and wife, Rhonda; daughter, Martha Jensen and husband, Lawrence; and daughter, Suzanne Hailes, and husband, Jack. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Abby Tausend, M.D., Jaime Tausend, Stephen Tausend, William Tausend, M.D. and wife, Melissa, Brett Jensen, M.D. and fiancé, Amber Tadlock, Kevin Jensen, Garrett Hailes, and Matthew Hailes, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Ruth White, and brothers, Jack Tausend, M.D., and Ralph Tausend.
Visitation will be held at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, Texas from 6:00PM – 8:00PM on Tuesday, July 28. A funeral service will be held at 10:00AM on Wednesday, July 29 at First United Methodist Church Pasadena, 1062 Fairmont Pkwy, Pasadena, Texas 77504.
