Peggy Marie Dorn born on April 4, 1929, and was adopted as Peggy Marie Taylor, to proud parents, A.O. Taylor and Hallie Taylor, who adored their only child, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 26, 2016. She was raised in Houston, and graduated in 1947 from Austin High School. She was a stay at home mother, but never idle. In 1975, curious about her past, she founded Orphan Voyage, a non-profit organization. She proudly united birth mothers with their children when both were searching. In the course of her searches, she located birth mothers for FBI employees, politicians and everyone who called upon her. Her ability to search became an expertise and she was made a Master of the Harris County Courts for sealed adoption records, and a genealogical researcher who was appointed by all four Harris County Probate Courts to locate missing heirs. Peggy was a frequent speaker at events, radio shows and television appearances. She carried that passion to even greater goals when she was accepted into the Harris County Sheriff's Department Reserves in 1981, where she cleared many missing persons cases, until she took her retirement in 1998 from the HCSO. As if she wasn't busy enough, she was also employed by Carson Supply from its inception. From a woman who could not understand a ten key adding machine, she worked her way up to be the office director, and enjoyed her role in the growth of that company until she retired.
While all of the accomplishments above are noteworthy, her greatest accomplishment was to win the love of Bernard Dorn, her precious husband, who preceded her in death in 2013, and her 5 children, 9 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. She was an integral part of her grandchildren's lives and never forgot a birthday or important life event. After retiring from police work and Carson Supply, she continued her genealogy, but got interested in doll collecting. She amassed a collection of thousands of dolls, was active in the Houston Doll Club, and served as a term as President.
Peggy Dorn is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bernard Dorn and her daughter, Kathy Russell. She is survived by her loving children, Michael, Johnny, Edna and Karl; grandchildren, Stephan, Robyn, Jason, Jennifer, Christopher, Coleman, Cody, Hallie, Chase; seven great grandchildren, Sterlyn, Cierra, Jacob, Luke, Dominic, Jayden and Johnny Jay. Peggy was a great wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She will be missed.
