Peggy Louise Hoyt, 91, of Houston, Texas, passed away on March 12, 2026, at 8:28 p.m. Born Peggy Louise Wright on April 14, 1934, in Fort Worth, Texas, Peggy will be remembered as a fun-loving, active, and talented woman whose life was marked by devotion to family and a quiet, enduring creativity.
Peggy was born to George Rollin Wright and Louise Scott Wright. She grew up on the beloved “Bewick Street,” a place she fondly recalled throughout her life, where she spent countless hours playing games with neighborhood friends. An energetic child, she participated in many of the sports available to girls at the time, and one teacher memorably described her as “all American.” Peggy attended Paschal High School and later enrolled at Texas Christian University, where she also worked as a secretary for Gulf Oil. She deeply admired her older brother, Rollin, who served as both protector and role model during her childhood.
While attending TCU, Peggy met Ross Hoyt, a lanky basketball player from Houston and a member of the TCU basketball team. They fell in love quickly and were married on December 6, 1954. Following college, Ross fulfilled a military commitment in the United States Army, and the couple moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas. During their time there, Peggy and Ross welcomed their first child, a son, Dirk. After Fort Smith, they moved to Houston, Texas, where they began building their life together and purchased their first home in the Oak Forest neighborhood. In the years that followed, Peggy welcomed three daughters—Lisa, Gayle, and Lynn. In 1968, the family moved to the Wilchester West neighborhood of Houston, and in 1969, Peggy and Ross welcomed their fifth child, another son, Ross. Peggy and Ross shared 26 years of marriage until Ross’s untimely passing in 1981.
Peggy was a talented artist who enjoyed drawing and painting landscapes and still-life scenes. With a natural ability to sketch nearly anything with ease, her creativity brought beauty and joy to those around her.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Edward Hoyt. She is survived by her children: Dirk Hoyt (Becky Hoyt), Lisa Hoyt, Gayle Cline (Randy Cline), Lynn McIntyre (Dan McIntyre), and Ross Hoyt (Sharon Hoyt); her grandchildren: Reese Hoyt, Justin Hoyt, Travis Hoyt, Shannon Hoyt, Shelby Hoyt, Samuel Hoyt, Jacob Bays, Scott McIntyre, John McIntyre, and Ross Hoyt; and her niece, Susan White.
