Rachel Hernandez Cordova was born May 9, 1947, sixth child to Savina Torres Hernandez and Lorenzo Angel Hernandez. She attended De Zavala Elementary until the family bought their first home and then attended Franklin Elementary, Edison Middle School, and graduated from Milby High School where she met Joe G. Cordova. They married October 1968 after Joe returned from the Army. Rachel and Joe had two children, Jacqueline Grace and Jerome Gerald Cordova. Rachel earned an associate’s degree from Massery Business School, which got her excellent employment opportunities. Her employment career was ultimately one she enjoyed going to everyday. She began working at University of Houston and then later she was the secretary at Brookline Elementary for more than 30 years. During that time, she was one of the founders of HESP-6315 Union. In 2003, she was diagnosed with Schlederma. In 2014, her illness started to decline and retired from Houston I.S.D. Her faith was strong and love of her family and her friends kept her strong too. She lost her struggle to live on July 26, 2020.

I remember Rachel from my time in Houston and my time playing for the Latin World/Budweiser Cats. She was always at the games w/her family. She was such a nice lady and I really appreciated her son “Jeromie” (our batboy) and daughter Jackie!! Rest In Peace Rachel until Gods Kingdom comes and wakes you up from your sleep! John 11:25

Rachel, on behalf of your friends, of the Milby Hispanic Alumni Association, we send our most sincere sympathy. You supported us at our fundraising events and we appreciate all you did as long as your health allowed.
